UK Government Chevening Scholarships for Australians
Australia benefits from more the 40 years of Chevening Scholarships provided by the UK Government through its Chevening Scholarship Program. The Chevening Scholarships haves provided more than 30,000 scholarships at higher education institutions in the UK for postgraduate students or researchers from countries across the world including Australia. Chevening Scholarships for Austeralia are for talented Australians who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion and academia.

- Scholarship Eligibility
have tertiary qualifications;
- be accepted into any graduate degree program offered at the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge (this will usually require a First Class Honours degree, upper Second Class Honours degree or equivalent); or
- have an application under consideration at Oxford or Cambridge Admissions Office;
- provide a signed document (including common seal) as confirmation from the Aboriginal Heritage Association, Aboriginal Corporation or Land Council of the country of their ancestors. The applicant must:
- be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
- identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived.
Applicants must:
- Have good English language skills with and should check what IELTS score or equivalent is required for admission to postgraduate courses (for non-native speakers of English.
- Meet the academic requirements for their courses of study
Applicants cannot be:
- A UK or EU national
- An employee of the FCO (including British Embassies and High Commissions), the British Council, a co-sponsor or sponsoring UK university, or their relatives, or former employee who left such employment within the past two years
- People who have already recieved financial benefit from a UK Government Funded award.

The FCO makes the final decision on applications for Chevening scholarships. Candidates are assessed on academic merit, achievements to date both in and outside of the academic and workplace areas, refrees' letters, proposed area of study, clear leadership potential and potential to further strengthen the UK-Australia bilateral relationship.
You must indicate which courses and institutions you would like to attend on your application form. You are strongly advised to apply to those institutions before receiving an award, as places in popular courses fill early.

Contact the Trust on [email protected] to discuss your application and college choice. This is very important as we can provide advice, connect you with current students and support you through your application to Oxford and/or Cambridge.
2. APPLY FOR UNIVERSITY
Before applying you should check your preferred university's website - Oxford and/or Cambridge - to clarify exact entry requirements and application deadlines for your chosen course/s. The Trust encourages candidates to consider applying to both Universities to increase their chances of being accepted into their program of interest.

When you apply to Oxford or Cambridge you will be required to nominate two of the listed participating colleges. There is no limit to the number of application to different courses you can make. However, you will need to provide the full set of necessary supporting materials for each application you submit. The application fee for each program at the University of Oxford is £75, and £65 per application for the University of Cambridge. If you are applying for more than one course you will need to supply separate application forms and payments for each program. When you submit your application, you will be asked to pay the application fee by providing your credit card details to a secure server. The charge is not refundable.
3. APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP
Once the application dates are live, apply to the Trust for a Charlie Perkins Scholarship here.
Note: You must be accepted by the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge in order to be eligible to receive a Charlie Perkins Scholarship. You can apply for the Scholarship while your university application is under consideration.
You will need to submit the following documents:
1. A Personal Statement outlining:
2. Curriculum Vitae (CV);
3. An official transcript of university results (including mid-year results if available);
4. Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through a signed statement (including common seal if available) from the Aboriginal Heritage Association, Aboriginal Corporation or Land Council of the country of your ancestors;
5. A high resolution headshot;
6. Five referees (three of which should be academic referees) should forward written reports directly to [email protected]. The references should highlight your capabilities, your past contribution to the Indigenous community, and the perceived future benefit of doing your chosen course. One of you references should be from an Elder in your community, and should highlight your connection to the community.
