New Zealand Development Scholarships for African Students
The Government of New Zealand offers free Scholarships to students from African countries. African Students who are successful in this scholarship will study in colleges and Universities in New Zealand. There are two types of scholarships offered.
1. Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships
These scholarships are available for selected countries in Africa. These countries that are eligible for these scholarships are:
2. New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships
Eligible Countries: Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

2. New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships

Qualification types
New Zealand Development Scholarships are available for the following qualifications:
- Postgraduate Certificate (6 months)
- Postgraduate Diploma (1 year)
- Masters Degree (1 – 2 years)
- PhD (up to 3.5 years)
Eligibility
Candidates must meet all the scholarship eligibility criteria including:
Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing your scholarship.
Be a citizen of the country from which you are applying for a scholarship and have resided in that country for at least the last two years.
Agree to return to your home country for a minimum of two years on completion of the scholarship.
How to apply
New Zealand Development Applications usually close at the end of April annually. .
New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships are currently being assessed by nominating agencies and will be sent to Universities New Zealand for shortlisting by end of June each year.
Students can also apply online
