New Zealand Scholarships for Singapore Students
There are scholarship opportunities for Singapore students to study in New Zealand. The scholarship is provided by the New Zealand government through the ministry of Foreign and Affairs. The Scholarship is called the New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards. This scholarship is available only for doctoral studies. Successful applicants will study at Victoria University.

Victoria offers four scholarships per year to PhD applicants from Singapore and Brunei (two awards are made to Brunei and two to Singapore).

Selection criteria
Successful applicants should have an outstanding academic track record in a relevant discipline. The applicant will be expected to have completed a Bachelor's or Masters degree with academic distinction equivalent to a First Class Honours degree at a New Zealand University.
Applicants are requested to clearly indicate their area of research interest and to include a brief summary of their suggested research and methodology with their application.
The following factors will be taken into consideration:
1. These scholarships will be targeted at younger researchers who have the capacity to contribute to the development of their countries and the ASEAN region.
2. Priority will be given to topics that relate to regional integration and sustainable development.

Students whose first language is not English are required to meet the English language proficiency requirements for postgraduate study at Victoria University. Victoria's English language requirements are strict and not negotiable. If your first language is not English, you must provide evidence of your English proficiency before you will be accepted as a PhD candidate. Requirements are:
1. TOEFL 575 with (preferably) a TWE of 5, or 237 on the computer-based test; or 90 on the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing; or
2. IELTS overall band of 6.5, no sub-score below 6; or
3. CAE grade B; or
4. a minimum of two ratings of 5 and two ratings of 4 in the Victoria University English Proficiency Programme test.
