Study in Japan on fully funded Scholarships. The Japanese Government (MEXT) undergraduate scholarships are open to international students.

• About

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of the Government of Japan offers a full undergraduate scholarship to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities.
Offered to students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students, studying towards a Bachelor's Degree in their chosen field. 

• Scholarship Program

These scholarships are for Undergraduate Program

• Field of Study

Students can study in any area of study. The Undergraduate Scholarship is generally for five years in total, comprising 1 year of Japanese language training and 4 years of study toward a Bachelor's degree. For those studying in fields such as medicine or dentistry, veterinary medicine or a 6 year pharmacy course, the scholarship may be extended up to 7 years.

• Selection Criteria

This scholarship is available to applicants who are between 17 and 25 years old at the time of departure and have completed 12 years of school education OR completed courses in a school comparable to a high school (includes prospective graduates). Applicants must be a citizen of countries that Japan has diplomat relationship with. A five-year scholarship is offered (first year in Japanese language training, four years degree) beginning in April, or September/October.

• Eligibility

Citizens of countries that have diplomatic relationship with Japan can apply for theses scholarships.  Check out eligible countries here

• Application Procedure

The scholarship recipients are recruited and initially screened by a Japanese embassy (or consulate general, depending on the country).
As the application process differs according to the country in which the Japanese embassy is located, please inquire at the Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country for details.​

Decision makers
The Japanese Embassy will, in co-operation with the foreign governments concerned, select preliminary candidates from among applicants by means of an interview, an academic examination and a review of the submitted documents. Those who have been selected as preliminary candidates will be recommended to MEXT, who will select the grantees from among those recommended.
