The General Aircraft Maintenance Engineers licensing process in place in the country. These were some of the questions raised and answers receive
  • How many licensing examinations should a student pass before being eligible to apply for an AME licence from CASAPNG?
Pass up to 7 licensing examinations as per required by the licensing categories then do Human Factors and Air Law Written once you are ready to submit your applications for a licence.
  • When should a student plan on sitting the licensing examinations?
As soon a you completed a subject. In other words, it is as soon as you completed semester one of your first year of study in Aiyura Aircraft Maintenance Engineering School.
  • What is the required pass mark for the licensing examinations?
The required pass mark is 75%. The licensing exams are done online and are conducted in two approved exam centres in the country.
  • Are there any plans to increase sitting spaces in the two existing exam centres?
CASAPNG is working on addressing the licensing exam demands posed by increasing the intervals of licensing exams conducted. Another step is to create additional exam centres in the country.
  • Are there any new amendment made to the Advisory Circulars?
No. Any changes made will be uploaded to CASAPNG website. For now, use whatever documents there is on the CASAPNG website. The information on the website is up to date.
  • Has the AMS1 certification for CAR Part 141 students come into effect?
Yes. After passing 3 AME Licensing examinations, the student is eligible for an AMS1 certificate from CASAPNG. A fee of K330.00 will apply. The AMS1 certificate is a certification from CASAPNG to assist students secure training employment with CAR Part 145 Aviation Organisations.
  • Are there any plans to facilitate training employment for students graduating from CAR Part 141 institutions?
CASAPNG is in no position to force CAR Part 145 Aviation Organisations to employ new graduates. It is up to the organisations to decide. What students can do is to sit and pass the licensing examinations. CASAPNG will only assist with AMS1 certification. Passing licensing examinations will indicate to the employing organisations that you are determined and are working your way towards getting a licence. Attempting and passing licensing examinations will increase your chances of employment in the industry.
  • What is the full layout of the training before being eligible to apply for an AME Licence?
After completing your training in a CAR Part 141 Aviation Training Organisation, you will have to pass all required licensing examinations and do two years of practical experience. In the two years of practical experience, you are to complete all Practical Training Records pertinent to the licence sought. Submit all documents to CASAPNG to get a basic AME licence.
  • ▪️How soon can one complete all required licensing examinations?
As soon as you start sitting and passing the licensing examinations. Again it will come back to how much funds you have to pay for the exam fees. If you fail an exam, you can always pay the exam fees again and sit the exams multiple time. Air Law Written has a limit of two consecutive failed attempts to suspend you for six months before applying again for Air Law exams. Air Law exam results expires after two years of when you last pass the exam. For this reason, Air Law exams should be done last.
  • Why is Aiyura Aircraft Maintenance Engineering School is not in the list of institutions authorized to receive students exam results on the ASPEQ site?
The school should send us an email and CASAPNG will sort it out.
The inspection team's final words to students before they depart for Port Moresby were "Go into overkill mode with your studies and see you at the exam centre." ICAO has made a prediction based on the workforce on hand that there will be an estimated shortage of 1.5 million aircraft maintenance engineers worldwide by 2030. This is based on the age of the current workforce and the drive for new recruitment. Papua New Guinea should work toward supplying licensed aircraft maintenance engineers when the demand arise so study hard and study smart and aim for a 100% score in your licensing exams.
